Why Does My Aiff File Keep Removing Album Art?

  • #1

I finally upgraded my MBP 2022 to Catalina recently after holding off for a while, largely due to the missing album art consequence, and sure plenty a lot of my anthology fine art is at present missing.

- All of the albums I added since 2022 are fine. The first albums with missing artwork I added in 2015, and as I get back in fourth dimension, the problem becomes more and more common.

- I left information technology open overnight, and equally far as I can tell naught updated over that fourth dimension (the newest albums with blank album art when I went to bed still were blank in the morn). Moreover it no longer reads "loading artwork" in the bottom right. Then I don't call up it'southward a matter of leaving the app open longer.

- I tried starting Music while belongings pick and selecting my onetime pre-upgrade .itl file. It went through the same procedure of loading anthology art, with the same set of albums ending up with missing art.

- A lot of my albums are obscure and/or tagged differently than they are in the iTunes store so "Get Album Artwork" won't work for those, but some of the missing albums do work with "Get Album Artwork," so that'due south not the problem.

- I've tried closing and restarting the app a bunch of times, to no avail.

Are at that place whatsoever known solutions likewise manually calculation art to every album that's missing it?

Watching this thread with interest. I've had this problem since Mojave, so I don't even recollect this is Catalina-specific, just a macOS cluster****

There is a setting in music's preferences that says the app will search for / update album art. I had similar bug to you until I disabked information technology.

Music > Preferences > Advanced > Automatically Update Artwork

endeavour turning that off.

Thanks! That was already turned off, then that doesn't seem to be the trouble in my case.

The "solution" I've ended upwards with for the time being is to use Retrospective to reinstall iTunes. It has all my album art, and still syncs with my iPhone. And then I'll but illicitly use iTunes until Apple fixes Music (if it ever does).

Cheers! That was already turned off, so that doesn't seem to be the problem in my example.

How exercise you lot use Retrospective?

For me actually a lot of album artwork did re-appear after fourth dimension. Merely for those missing, for some it works to right click and use "Load anthology artwork", only for those not displaying I have to re-add the artwork from an image.

The funny thing is, that it is there. I can see it in the mini-thespian when playing a runway from the album, but it won't show upwards in album view.

Had the same problem sometimes when editing my files in Windows iTunes and and so switching back to my Mac which all uses the same external harddrive. Simply then the pull a fast one on to edit all files, similar setting an unused field like BPM to ane, or even only selecting all tracks in the album, click cmd+i to show info and merely click ok made it reappear. This way you could even select all albums with missing artwork and the practise this workaround. But in the Music app information technology doesn't

Cheers for that and sorry for the spelling, I typed as well fast. Retroactive has been perfect by the mode. Works without issue!

I have this same trouble ever since updating to Catalina. Over 90% of my album art is gone, and using the Music app to go the artwork worked on similar 10 albums. No joke.

Anyone have any solution? I don't even understand how all of my album art disappeared. I believe at first it was just not showing up in the music app on Catalina, but now beyond devices well-nigh of my album art is gone. I Accept almost 2,000 albums, then individually finding the art online and adding manually seems like a pain. And even and so, sometimes the art just won't save. Even when washed manually.

Aforementioned effect here. Lost so much album artwork. I'm sick and tired of having to fix things when upgrading to another version of OS X. I used to tell people Mac's were similar toasters... they just worked. Not ANYMORE!

BTW... I went into system preferences and clicks automatically update album artwork.

I've likewise right clicked and asked to update album artwork and information technology says information technology cannot exist found.

How hard is it to find the album artwork for Ace of Base of operations, The Sign!!!!!!

The just solution I've found (and it's not a viable solution AT ALL) is to become to the artwork metadata editor tab in the Music app by clicking 'get info' on a rails or album and and then literally just motion the album art a piffling and printing OK. The art and then appears in the Music App.

Sometimes you need to go dorsum into the album one more time to trigger it to refresh.

It works, but I'grand not doing it on 600+ albums.

Information technology's interesting that you even have the album fine art in the metadata editor at all. Mine don't prove up fifty-fifty in that location.

Can you delight explain to me in detail how to practise this? (Should I fifty-fifty try?) I'm not familiar with the metadata editor just am tech savvy!

Tin can you delight explicate to me in item how to practise this? (Should I fifty-fifty attempt?) I'm not familiar with the metadata editor just am tech savvy!

I but mean right-clicking and selecting "Go Info"!

The upgrade to Catalina, which I'd held out for quite a while to practice, totally screwed up my iTunes artwork. Instead of having album artwork that I tin access through the "go info" feature for each song, I tin only encounter the embedded metadata artwork as the song plays. Anthology artwork gone. Or so I thought. I have over 200,000 iTunes. There'south not a take a chance I'm going to sit and play with information technology to restore all my artwork i song at a time. That could take hours. I've found this:

Select a bunch of tunes whichever way; either from the dwelling music screen, or from playlists, or however yous do it inside the Music program. This script applies the embedded metadata artwork, finer restoring the album artwork. I tried it. Information technology works. Now I'k going to throw Doug a few bucks for making life easier. Besides, information technology'due south a good idea to go to the "Preferences" and under the "Avant-garde" section, deselect "Automatically update artwork."

Strangely this isn't working for me. Music doesn't show in that location being any embedded art for these files, even though the aforementioned files practise have their album art in iTunes (through Retroactive).

If there's no embedded art, so this fix won't piece of work. Gaaah.

I deliberately waited to upgrade my iTunes machine until 10.fifteen.4...I figured surely Apple would accept stock-still this glitch by now. Nope. Most of my music anthology art is gone, and almost all of my Idiot box/Pic art. Catalina has been the biggest fail in a MacOS in a long time. Oh for the stability of a Snow Leopard.....

About as I can tell they don't bother to QA the local content office of the ecosystem anymore - they want you lot to buy devices with large amounts of storage, merely then depreciate using that storage in favor of renting/streaming/non having music when the net is unavailable.

*Extremely frustrating*

I'm hoping the dougscript will gear up it.

I made an business relationship but to follow this issue. Maybe for the next release apple should focus on improving their applications instead of creating new ones.

  • #24

One solution that I've heard that can work, go into the Music Preferences, then go to Files, so where information technology says "Music Media folder location", make sure it's gear up to the new music binder, not the sometime iTunes folder. And so the path should look like this: /Macintosh Hard disk/Users/name/Music/Music/Media
If it doesn't say this, press reset. And then hit OK, and it should re-organize your library
[automerge]1592666034[/automerge]
I read somewhere that information technology has something to do with the fact that onetime songs are put into the old iTunes folder, where as the new songs relocate to the music binder. So if you printing reset, then brand certain organize library is checked, then you hit OK, it volition reindex your library. This might aid with the album art issue
[automerge]1592666134[/automerge]
It will movement your entire iTunes library over to the new /Macintosh HD/Users/name/Music/Music/Media folder.
Just back up, just to make sure nil can exist messed up too bad

Only back up, just to make sure nothing tin can be messed upwards too bad

Thanks for the tip. Still trying to figure out how retrieve the artist image icons. Merely some of them seem to have been retrieved.
